HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One Printer (CD055A#ABA) Review

HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One Printer (CD055A#ABA)
Average Reviews:

I did a ton of research and finally decided to go with this unit despite no reviews at the time. Installation was a breeze (using Mac OS X) except for one part where it asks you to set up a print queue. After doing so, it didn't recognize it after multiple attempts. I finally decided to click past that step and it worked fine anyway.
We printed about a dozen photos over the first three days. On day 4, the printer booted up and slammed the print cartridge hard to the left, then came up with a "Carriage Jam" error. The nice thing about the touch screen is that it also visually walks you through pictures of the areas that you need to check for paper jams, etc.. Alas, after going through every trouble shooting step provided, it didn't solve the problem.
We returned it to Amazon (Very hassle free I might add--can't fault them a bit) and decided to try a second one since we did like the features. I was glad to see that Amazon ships you another even before you return the defective one. So far this one is working fine although it's only been a couple of days.
Our last HP was probably 4 years old. I have to say the print speed on this one is amazingly fast by comparison. I'm impressed it can print a 4x6 photo as fast as it does. Copy and scan work well too, although I've found I have to initiate scanning from the Mac. Didn't seem to work if I tried to use the touchscreen to scan. I was pleased how easy they make choosing options with scanning. You can scan a document straight to PDF, JPEG, TIFF, Memory Card, USB drive, OCR...
Overall, it does seem as though this printer is very well made. It's also great having a tray for both paper and 4x6 photos. Unlike so many printer reviews, it doesn't appear as though this printer is burning through much ink at all.
Although I would definitely recommend it, I can't give it 5 stars due to the issues mentioned above.

Panasonic Dect 6.0 Black Cordless Phone with Answering Machine and ChoiceMail (KX-TG7434B) Review

Panasonic Dect 6.0 Black Cordless Phone with Answering Machine and ChoiceMail (KX-TG7434B)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I think Panasonic finally got it right with this one, and I only have one (very small) issue with the phone. All in all, this is without a doubt the best cordless phone system I have ever used.
I had a previous Panasonic 5.8 gHz phone and loved it. One day after about 2 years of use, the base abruptly died, and none of the handsets would connect. I think it's a sign of a strong manufacturer, though, that when one product dies the only brand that I would even consider again is the same one.
With the previous model, I had only a couple of small complaints: 1) when you received a call on one handset, it would still show "missed call" on all of the other handsets, and 2) you had to clear the missed call list individually on all handsets. Both issues have been corrected with this phone. All handsets now synchronize automatically when you review the call list, and only calls that you truly don't answer show as missed calls. And there's no more having to copy the phone book from one receiver to another, either. Changes on one phone are mirrored on all of the others.
The large display on this phone really sets it apart from others as well. When you program the time on the phone, the display acts as a second clock. And it's readable from aross the room!
Speaking of readable, the large display also makes it very easy to see who's calling. The phone does offer the talking caller ID feature found on other Panasonic phones, but we find it to be annoying. Thankfully, you can turn the feature off in the menu system.
And that leads me to my only complaint about this phone, albeit an extremely minor one. When you get into various menus, I haven't found a way to go back one screen. For example, if I click into the caller list and then click on the individual entry, I can't figure out how to go back to the caller list. I have to go all the way out to the main phone screen and then go back into the caller list. If there was just a simple "back" button, this phone would be perfect in every way.
Of course the purpose of a phone is to allow you to communicate clearly, and this one excels in that department. Connections are clear, and it is very easy to hear the other end. The previous phone had a "voice enhancer" technology that I found to be unnatural and annoying, and that (thankfully) is not present here. But it's not missed.
I've had the phone down the street about 7 or 8 houses away, and the connection is still rock solid. We live in a typical suburban setting, and I've heard no interference or static at any time.
Also, the DECT 6 technology, operating on a lower frequency, does not interfere with our wireless computer network at all. And I've never heard any static from the microwave or any other electronic device, for that matter.
The real selling feature of this phone to me was the visual voicemail list. Since the base doesn't have any kind of indicator as to how many messages are stored, the handset serves as an excellent way to navigate the messages. And you can listen to messages in any order, and you can save or delete them one by one as well. The fact that the messages are tagged with the caller ID info is great, too!
Oh, one other feature that I haven't seen mentioned is that the keypad is lit. That makes for calling in a dark room to be painless.
All in all, this one is very deserving of the 5-star rating.
Likes: the large, well lit display; the message list (choicemail); automatic syncing of all handsets.
Dislikes: The lack of a "back" button in the menu screens.
[EDIT: Someone pointed out that you can indeed go back one screen in the menus. You just have to push the little joystick controller any direction, and the phone will return to the previous screen. Now the phone is perfect! Thanks for the tip!!]
[UPDATE: 5/2/10]
After using the phones for one year, I still stand behind the original review. These things are still working like champs. We had one of the 4 handsets lose a screen after a fall from the kitchen counter (must have landed *just* right that day, as they have taken a few tumbles in the year). That screen is now covered with leaked black LCD gunk, and we have that handset placed in the least used spot in the house.
The only other issue is that a bit of the black paint on the face of the units around the buttons has become worn around the edges, and the silver color of the underlying rubber / plastic is showing through. None of the necessary parts of the buttons themselves have worn off, and it's just a cosmetic thing. Frankly, with the use the phones get, this is a minor issue at most.
Battery life is still good from the original rechargables, but we hang up most of the phones after each use back into the recharging cradles. The one handset that gets most of the use shows some signs of dimished battery life, but it's used at least 3 hours a day, and it doesn't always get put back on the charger. It now loses its charge after about 3 days like this.
Otherwise, I'm as happy now as I was when I wrote the original review. Revised rating: 5 stars.

NEC Mobilepro 780 Portable Computer Review

NEC Mobilepro 780 Portable Computer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
SHORTLY AFTER POSTING THE FOLLOWING REVIEW A NEC REPRESENTATIVE CONTACTED ME TO INFORM ME THAT THEY HAD CHANGED THEIR MIND AND THEY THEN FIXED AND RETURNED MY COMPUTER. IT'S WORKING GREAT.
A warning to anyone who is purchasing a NEC product. NEC has taken possession of my handheld computer and then blamed it on me.
In November of 2001 I eagerly opened my re-manufactured NEC MobilePro 790 which I purchased at a very reasonable price over the internet.
I enjoyed using it. It served as an easily used companion to my main computer. I could easily carry it to me to meetings and write notes. It much easier than a laptop because of it's light weight but more useful than the smaller handhelds because it has a decent sized adequate keyboard.
But there was a problem. I would go to turn it on after being putting it away for a day or two and it would fail to respond.
I called NEC multiple times and they taught me how to reboot it but soon this did not work and then they taught me how to remove the battery and again reboot it. One problem. I would loose all the stored information.
I again called and was advised to be sure to back up and this I faithfully did. Fortunately the computer information was easy to back up with the use of Microsoft ActiveSync.
This worked fine most of the time but was unreliable so I then purchased a CompactFlash for storage.
By being sure I saved my work to the compact flash card and by using Microsoft ActiveSync I no longer lost critical information but I was unable to dependably take advantage of the Mobilepro's other features such as the address book and calender.
I called again and was advised that since my computer was under warranty to send it in for repair.
This I did. I soon received a phone call from Joan Forster stating the cost of repair would not be under warranty and was approximately what I originally paid for it. She explained that the problem was water damage. When I tried to explain that the problem started from the date of purchase this NEC representative was extremely rude and objected to listen. When I asked to be transferred to her supervisor she said that she was the senior supervisor and refused to connect me to anyone else. I Later contacted Michael Rains but he simply referred the matter back to Joan Forster who again refused to consider the possibility that the handheld was defective from date of purchase. When I delayed agreeing to the repair price and then I did not accept the defective product back she wrote me a letter stating that it was now their property.
NEC still has my handheld.
Just a warning. It may be a very useful tool but if it is defective they will blame it on you and not cover it under warranty.

Built Neoprene Kindle DX Sleeve (Fits 2nd and Latest Generation Kindle DXs), Nolita Stripe

I like the stretchy and soft feel of the material. I have decided to buy this Sleeve from online based on my previous experience with Built lunch bags (we have purchased several Built lunch bags over the years). At first I did not like the narrower middle section of the Sleeve. After reading other reviews, I have learned that it is designed to protect the corners of the Kindle. Over time, I have begun to like the whole design. Since I like to use my Kindle DX the way it is without any extra "skins". It is very easy to put in or take out my Kindle to and from the Sleeve. And it is very convenient to add this Sleeve into my other hand bags on the go.

Garmin eTrex Summit HC Handheld GPS Receiver Review

Garmin eTrex Summit HC Handheld GPS Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this unit for use on hikes, bike rides, and other similar outdoor activities. I've had it for a few months now, and overall, I'm only somewhat satisfied. Here's a list of pros and cons that have stuck with me so far:
Pros:
-easy to read/see color screen (even in bright sunlight)
-highly customizable screens (types and amount of data shown on each screen)
-fairly easy to learn and operate
-many features, including barometric altimeter and electronic compass
Now, the cons to this product may not be specific to this unit. It may be more a function of the limitations of GPS:
-inaccurate (sometimes highly) "tracking" of horizontal position or trail actually traveled (I've compared to trail maps and Google Earth visible trails, and some of my tracks are inexplicably way off)
-inaccurate barometric altimeter (sometimes hundreds of feet off. I've turned it on, and had elevation readings of -200 feet!!) which must be constantly calibrated. Also, if you calibrate at the bottom of a climb, by the time you reach the summit, it may be over 100' off.
-very inaccurate odometer data, and inconsistencies in the data. For example, I recently hiked Half Dome, which is 4800' vertical gain...this unit only registered 1500' total ascent, but the begin elevation and end elevation shown were well over 1500' different. Also, on the same Half Dome hike, the odometer read 5 miles hiked, but the track total registered a more accurate 8.3 miles.
-very "stiff" buttons.
Again, the inaccuracy may be a function of the limitations of GPS, but the odometer inaccuracies in terms of total distance, total ascent, descent, etc. was disppointing. Perhaps Garmin needs to come up with another way of calculating these values. I think a lot of these values are calculated using current horizontal and vertical velocity, which may be inaccurate at any given moment. With inconsistencies at any given moment, it is difficult for the unit to calculate the actual horizontal and vertical distance traveled.
In any case, overall, I would recommend this product for simple trail and waypoint marking. But it should be understood you will only get "general" information, and not anything resembling very accurate data.
**EDIT** Garmin released a firmware patch in Feb of '08, and it has really helped with the accuracy of certain data. The total ascent data is much more accurate now, often within 100' of actual climbed distance (that may not seem so great, but it was horrible before). Also, the distance measurements are better. When I save a track, the distance per the track is much more close to the odometer reading, usually within a mile for a 10-15 mile hike (which again, is just ok, but better than before).
Overall, the unit does seem to be more accurate in all ways now, perhaps due in part to this firmware update. Also, tracks seem to be more accurate in terms of comparing visually to maps. I'm more happy with the unit now, and would probably give it 4 stars if I reviewed it today.

Garmin eTrex Venture HC GPS Receiver Review

Garmin eTrex Venture HC GPS Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before buying this new Venture HC, I had spent many hours trekking with several of the original eTrex models over the years. I think it's fair to say that while the concept of the original eTrex was great, the execution was frequently disappointing.
It disappoints no more. The Venture HC is the eTrex perfected. It remedies almost every shortcoming that plagued the original models. The new high-sensitivity receiver is amazingly effective. Countless times I've stood in wide open spaces cursing my old eTrex because it wouldn't acquire a single satellite. Last night I turned on the Venture HC on the bottom floor of my two story house, and it locked onto 8 satellites...through the roof and the upper floor! No more "need a clear view of the sky" messages. Amazing.
The old monochrome display has become color, and the user interface is now substantially more intuitive, while adding even more functionality. The cable, which was serial on previous models, has been upgraded to USB, another welcome improvement. The case is somewhat wider than before, but the design bears a strong resemblance to the original eTrex.
A basemap is included but it's just that - basic. It shows the largest highways, bodies of water, and has some limited capability to display highway exit services. If you need turn-by-turn street directions, an eTrex is not for you. This is a GPS receiver true to Garmin's outdoor GPS heritage.
Promised battery life (14 hours) is near the bottom of the range when compared to the existing eTrex models, but is still perfectly adequate and has posed no problems.
One weakness that remains is Garmin's waypoint manager PC software. It has the feel and functionality of a software product released circa 1994. Garmin could certainly develop a better PC interface. For $49 you can buy ExpertGPS from Topografix, or download the free version (EasyGPS)from their website. Either is far more functional than the Garmin OEM software.
Still, the software criticism is a quibble. The Venture HC itself is great. It is a market changing product that renders all previous eTrex models (and many competitors) obsolete. Finally, an affordable outdoor GPS receiver that I can wholeheartedly recommend.

Epson Stylus NX515 WiFi Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer (C11CA48231) Review

Epson Stylus NX515 WiFi Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer (C11CA48231)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this all-in-one because my other printer is not a copy-capable printer and we need that capability. I did some research and finally decided on the Epson NX515 after reading several reviews. So far I have been very pleased with it. I have a couple of small gripes but nothing that cannot be overlooked.
The NX515 is actually a relatively small printer, taking up a little less space than any of my previous printers. It is also lightweight and easy to move should there be a need.
Setting up the NX515 is simple. There is a quick-start guide that explains the process of configuration and it makes the set-up almost foolproof. From the time I opened the box to the time I had a working printer that was producing output was less than 15 minutes, and there were no confusing or difficult steps in the process.
The only negative about the setup is that Epson, like almost every other printer vendor, does NOT include a USB cable in the box. The cost of a USB cable is actually only a couple of dollars (they're a high-profit item) so including one would not break the bank. If you do no have a spare USB cable available and you wish to direct-connect this printer, be sure to pick one up before trying to set up.
Once configured, the NX515 is a very capable printer. It has the fastest print speeds I have ever seen in an inkjet, printing faster in standard mode than I have seen most printers print in draft mode (for standard text - does not apply to photo printing). The quality does not suffer either and is excellent. I was pleased to see than this printer does not produce the banding I have seen in Epson printers' output in the past.
The control panel for setting up copying is very easy to read and very easy to navigate. It is very simple to change copy parameters and the instructions in the panel are straightforward.
I have not used the scanning capabilities of the NX515.
One feature I wish was available, even if it required buying an attachment, is automatic duplex printing. My other printer handles duplex printing with ease and requires no intervention at all. The NX515 does duplex printing but it requires manual intervention. This is a minor inconvenience, not a deal-breaker.
Epson has produced a very nice all-in-one in the NX515. The setup is simple and the print speeds are absolutely stunning. It is by no means a perfect device but it is an excellent product at an excellent price (approximately $110 at the moment). If you need a printer that can handle scanning and copying while producing beautiful prints, give this printer a close look.

First, this little guy requires a 100g or 200g calibration weight - if you want to calibrate it. So don't buy a 50g like I did. ;) Oops. Now you know the competence of this operator/reviewer.
Second, the patriotic side of me chose this over the competition because it's an "American Weigh Scales" product. "Keep jobs in America", thought I. "Don't import another piece of rubbish."
Well, it's not rubbish, but in big bold letters on the case: "MADE IN CHINA". Oops. So much for keeping jobs in America. That said, I have nothing against Chinese products, so groovy. Was just half-trying to do my patriotic duty.
I bought this because I'd like some precision in my scale - 1/100th of a gram scale for under $20!? Great! Well, yeah, but... If you REQUIRE precision, this one may not be the best bet (HUGE surprise, it's under $20.) Oh well. Even weighing the calibration weight leads to incorrect readings every time.
Put the weight on, calibrate, 100g. Take the weight off, 0g. "Perfect!"
Repeat experiment, no calibration. Put weight on, "100.03g". Take weight off, "0.02g". Oh. Hmph.
So, it's not brilliant, nor should it be for the price, but it's not terrible. I suppose it will do. =) But if you want to keep jobs in America, better to spend $70 for one that really works precisely well.
+ Light, seemingly durable, compact, works okay
- Cheap build quality and feel, works okay
Overall, much as expected. Just hoped it'd worked a little better than it does. Definitely not terrible, I'd even venture good - considering the price!

Emprex BPF-107 7" Digital Photo Frame Review

Emprex BPF-107 7 Digital Photo Frame
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this 16:9 aspect ratio digital frame because I wanted to give my wife a usable screen to display both our wedding video and wedding pictures portably. The major incorrect marketing in this piece is, it does NOT play mpeg 4 video. It actually only plays mpeg 1 video. I discovered this after putting in an mp4 file and seeing it not be recognized. I then put in .mov, .wmv, .avi, and .mpg. This isn't just a mistake, it's a major error. The quality and efficiency between mpeg 1 and mpeg 4 video files are huge.
But I have to say, it reads directly from a USB drive, and has card readers to read from memory stick, SD card, and xD, cards. It has no internal memory, it does have a calendar and a very annoying alarm clock. You can scroll from pictures and watch video. I purchased it at FRY's for[...]. For the price, it does what it does very well. The processor in it is slow.
The actual pixel dimensions are 480 pixels wide, by 234 pixels high. Images which are not that aspect ratio have black around them. Images, especially the portrait ones, become much smaller and have a lot of whitespace around them. It comes with 2 plastic frames, one is white, the other is silver. Most digital images don't correspond to that aspect ratio, so I used Photo Shop to batch resize all my images to the correct aspect ratio. I got it mainly for displaying wide screen video, so I don't care about the black space on portrait vertical images.

I have owned this printer for 2 years. I use it daily. Every feature delivers. The DVD light-scribe drive works flawlessly. I have used aftermarket inks and HP inks interchangeably without any problems. Both the wireless and wired connections were easy to setup. The software that came with the scanner works better than my Epson photo scanner. I have scanned thousands of slides and photos. It has been reliable since day one.

Magellan Crossover 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

Magellan Crossover 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
One the whole, I like my M. Crossover. Generally speaking, it does everything I need it for in regard to GPS. I do not use mine for the audio or visual playback and do not care about those functions. To date, I have done nothing with the computer software either and cannot vouch for that aspect.
The best features to me were in having a GPS unit that I could use to plot courses in the car and yet have a GPS that would work well for hiking. I have driven all over north Texas with the unit and had it mark my travels in both the road mode and outdoor (hiking/contour map) mode. I have not used it in the Marine mode. With just a few exceptions, it has had all the roads I have been on. The exceptions were a couple of very small roads in the middle of nowhere and roads in a brand new development. No surprise. Strangely, it had some dirt roads that I would not have expected. So that was really handy.
In the outdoor mode, I have plotted various key points and had it track my progress, both while driving and while hiking. It has done this all relatively well.
Before I go further, let me say that if I lost this unit, I would not hesitate in getting another. However, it is not a perfect unit and has some shortcomings that are a bit of a bother, but not fatal at all. It has been my experience that all GPS units seem to have various shortcomings, often varying depending on the type of intended use of the unit. I do think the Crossover, with its shortcomings, does enough of the cross over functions to cover my needs sufficiently well and I do not currently see any other units on the market that match it in such versatility.
I have run the unit on battery (most of the time) and while charging in the car. I have charged it with the 120v outlet charger as well. They promise 8 hours of run time and so far I have run as much as 6 on full screen brightness and not run out of power. The 8 hour estimate seems good.
On my recreational property, I have plotted the locations of the property corners, gates, and other specific locations. Subsequent return trips have the show very good match between my previous plots and locations, to just a few feet, well within the unit's specifications. It performs consistently well in this regard, as it should.
The shortcomings...
In the 150+ hours of use with probably 80 or 90 start-ups, I have had it fail to properly boot 4 times. This necessitated the use of the reset switch on the side and after resetting, the unit booted fine.
The green rubber ring around the unit is to help absorb shock if dropped and it probably does help to some extent (I have dropped it once). However, it is prone to slip off when carried in a pocket or pack during periods of lots of motion and the grippy aspect of the rubber can make it hard to extract the unit from a snug pocket if one wants the rubber ring remaining on the unit.
The on screen controls vary with the mode that it is in and as such, the features I like in one mode are not in the same place in the other mode and that can be a bit annoying if you go between modes on a regular basis. This is especially true of the brightness function that is onscreen on the map page in the outdoor mode but not in the car mode.
You can't plot points in the car mode, but if you are in the car mode, the map does not show the icons for gas/food etc. that it does in the outdoor mode. That seemed a bit counter-intuitive.
I have medium-sized guy fingers and sometimes find that I have not been able to precisely press an onscreen button properly. Maybe I need more practice or smaller fingers.
Even on the brightest setting and while out in the sunlight, it can be hard to see the image on the screen. As long as sun is not shining directly on the screen in the car, it does well enough.
As with all GPS units I have used or experienced in the past, letting the GPS decide your route from point A to B should not mean that the traveler should blindly accept the route as the best option, even with the various choices given (fastest, shortest, most use of freeways, etc.). It will get you from point A to B, but what it asserts is the best route may actually be much less than optimal.
I don't know of any other way to charge the unit other than with the accessories provided. You can't take the unit on a 2 day hike and use it all the time without running down the battery and you can't change out the battery. It would be nice if there was a separate battery pack that could be jacked in or a solar charger. Otherwise, the unit is somewhat limited to either sporadic use on multi-day hikes or day hiking because of the battery limitation.
Lastly, while it can track something like 14 satellites, it can lose track of them as well. While hiking in Big Bend with the mountains, signals came and went a lot. It was a bit annoying. No doubt this will happen with other units as well, but the access to 14 didn't seem to make it keep track any more often or continually than with other GPS units I have used.
As I noted above, I would buy this unit again if I had to replace the current unit. I harped on the shortcomings because if you have read Magellan's promo for the Crossover, then you know what it can do and it has been my experience that it pretty well does what is claimed. I only point out the shortcomings such that other potential buyers can make a better informed decision.

Canon PIXMA MP500 All-In-One Photo Printer, Copier, and Scanner Review

Canon PIXMA MP500 All-In-One Photo Printer, Copier, and Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This printer is great!! I got this printer about two months ago, paid $150 from amazon, and I've had very few complaints. It truly is a great printer, and exceeded my expectations. I was hesitant at first to get this printer because I wasn't actually able to find it in stores (not available at the major electronic stores), and didn't have a chance to test it out ahead of time. Trust me on this though, it really is great!
PROS:
Simple to set up
Excellent print quality
Great software (easy to use)
Memory slots
Great color LCD display
Print on both sides of the paper without having to do any work!!
2 paper feeders (comes in handy...automatically switches when one is out)
Very quick
Cheap Cartridges (around $12 per color)
5-cartridge printer (when one color runs out, you don't have to replace the whole cartridge, just the one that is out)
Extremely easy to install cartridges (lights inside the printer tell you whether it is installed properly or not)
Easy to scan and copy
Quiet (once it has "warmed up"
EXCELLENT VALUE (beats most of the $300-400 printers)CONS:
a bit BIG and clunky
no fax
takes a while to "warm up" (once it warms up...its FAST)
This is by far the best printer I have ever used. The only concern I would have is that if you don't have much space, you might be in trouble, but that would be the case with almost any other all in one (this is a little bigger than normal though). I already had a fax, so the fact it didn't have that feature wasn't a big letdown, but if you have to have a fax, I would still go with Canon (cheapest cartridges and great quality). When you turn the printer on, or if you haven't used it in a while, it will make wierd noises (I guess its "warming up"?) for 20-30 seconds, but then its good to go for a while.
I would definitely suggest this printer to anyone looking for a great multifunction printer, especially if on a budget.

After searching for a digital recorder to meet my needs, I was glad to find this model. It's price can't be beat, and it has many features that more expensive models don't have such as mp3 drag and drop capability to either a PC or a Mac. This unit has voice activated recording and works well with both the built-in mic and the microphone jack. It's easy to use. I gave 5 stars on all categories and think it's a great unit for the price.

Samsung Monochrome Multifunction Laser Printer (SCX-4623F) Review

Samsung Monochrome Multifunction Laser Printer (SCX-4623F)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Not sure about the other review, that's why I decided to add my 2 cents. I was able to get the printer out of the box, plug it in, install the CD and have a fully functional printer/scanner/fax within 5 minutes and I have a Windows 7, 64 bit PC. It scanned and uploaded the image to my Adobe program on the first try (I was not expecting this to be the case having read the other review). The image was very clear - in fact it was far superior to my old brother all-in-one that this printer replaced. The fax machine worked equally as well and I was able to fax a Word document from my computer with no problems on the first try. The fax interface is easier to use than that of my old brother machine as well. So far no complaints whatsoever - wonderful print/copy quality and easy to use fax/scanner. I paid $130 for it at Office Max. For this price, I feel like I got a bargain.
