NEXTAR 7-Inch Digital Photo Frame with Slide Show and Music Function Review

NEXTAR 7-Inch Digital Photo Frame with Slide Show and Music Function
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you haven't bought this frame yet, don't buy it. Look elsewhere.
I got this as a gift and was determined to make it work. If you set the aspect ratio to 4:3 then your pictures will display properly, but won't fill up the screen. The default is 16:9 which stretches the photos and distorts them.
The trick is to distort (compress) them so that look ok when stretched. Using a photo editing tool, select a 1000 by 500 pixel portion of your photo. Then change the image properties to 700 by 500. The key is to uncheck the "maintain aspect ratio" box. On your PC, your photo will now look squished. But when loaded to the frame it now look fine.
I used the editor that came with my Canon camera, but you can download the free IrfanView to do it.

It's Simple To use and the voice is clear as a bell. It lets you know if you're turning left or right ahead of time so you're prepared and when you get to the exact spot for the turn it beeps. And... If it's so hard to remember what direction was told to you a minute ago, there's a directional arrow at the bottom left which points in the turn of your direction. If you miss your turn the system reconfigures to where you are and will direct you from there. Again, I like it.

I purchased this printer about a month or so ago. It arrived quickly and in very good shape. It has been working great! Doesn't hold as much paper as some of the other printers, but prints on both sides. It is wireless and we haven't had any issues in that area. We really haven't had problems with it at all so far and would recommend it to others who are looking for an uncomplicated little printer that is color and wireless.

AT&T DECT 6.0 Digital Four Handset Cordless Telephone with Answering System and Caller ID (SL82418) Review

ATandT DECT 6.0 Digital Four Handset Cordless Telephone with Answering System and Caller ID (SL82418)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First and foremost, this line of AT&T DECT 6.0 cordless phones works extremely well, no background noise even with a home wireless system, great range, and very good sound quality both with the handset to your ear and on speaker phone. It does all that one should expect from a cordless phone system. Entering names and numbers into your directory is very intuitive, as is using the caller ID and changing the ringer tone and volume. You hardly need the manual. We use the "phone company" voice mail, so I haven't evaluated the "usability" of the answering machine, but it "talks you through" the setup steps, setting the clock, etc., and seems very user friendly to operate. Another nice feature is that directory and CID entries are maintained in the base station, so if, for example, you enter a name/number on handset #1, it is immediately available on all other handsets on your system.
The handset is quite lightweight and compact compared to our previous cordless phone, which took a little getting used to, but my wife and I adapted to it after one or two days. The handsets come with belt clips, which I use, not to clip them on my belt but because they raise the back of the handsets slightly if you lay them down, which I find improves the the speaker phone sound (the speaker is on the back of the handsets).
One minor drawback, compared to my prior cordless phone, which permitted each handset to be identified by location, e.g., "kitchen," "bedroom," etc., is that each AT&T handset has a number (and added handsets are given consecutive numbers as they are registered to the base up to the maximum of 12), so you have to remember the location numbers to call another handset on the intercom or to transfer incoming calls. Not a big deal, but being able to name each handset is a nice feature.
Be aware that the SL82(X)18 models are all the same, with the (X) indicating the number of handsets with that bundle. For example, SL82318 comes with three handsets, SL82418 with four, etc. I mention this because the various bundles appear to be different products, but they are all essentially the same, so keep this in mind when shopping for the best deal. The only exception seems to be that models SL82518 and SL82558 both have five handsets, but I haven't been able to find what the difference between them is, even on the AT&T site. Since my review applies to all bundles of this system, (if they let me) I will post this review under the several different model numbers.
All in all, I am extremely pleased with these purchases, first a four handset bundle, then three additional handsets for a total of seven. Hope this review is helpful in making up your mind about selecting a new cordless phone.

Magellan RoadMate 3000T 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished) Review

Magellan RoadMate 3000T 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, I got this GPS because all the features looked great on paper. Maps of Canada were included and also it had a SD expansion slot. NO TTS, but thats ok. 6 million POIs is more than most. Took it for a drive the first day and it could not find a cold stone creamery near me. ITs been around for a couple of years, so right off the bat I was disappointed with the POIs. Then I asked it to take me home - at night - bad idea... not only did I end up in downtown, but most of the turns were under construction or non-existent. I had to shut it off eventually. It is rather good at recalculating the route though - only once did it ask me to take a U-turn (too bad it was on a state highway).
It is also rather sluggish to recognize my selections and sometimes hangs up in the middle of inputting addresses. Very distracting.
Not all is bad thought. I later tried sitting in my house and trying to pull up various routes and it did an admirable job - most routes were very similar to Google Maps. It acquires a lock very quickly and as stated above, recalculated routes quickly and efficiently.

I need a basic GPS to guide me around, and I guess I will be returning this one due to the old maps.
Also, the warranty is only 90 days and not 2 years as stated here.

CTA Digtal Heart Shape Picture Frame Necklace (Pink) Review

CTA Digtal Heart Shape Picture Frame Necklace (Pink)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought one on a whim in pink for my wife. I was skeptical at first, having tried cheap photo display items like this before, but this one actually works pretty well.
Yep, the screen resolution isn't HD quality, but for a 3/4" by 1/2" screen, it's fine. What was a pleasant surprise is how easy it is to use.
I wanted to load it up with the family photos before I gave it to her (which unfortunately means ripping it out of that ridiculous sealed-for-the-apocalypse packaging). The internal battery was charged, I turned it on (the instructions are pretty bad) and it worked. It has a few photos they loaded on there as a demo.
It's actually simple to use - it comes with a USB cable and I plugged it in and it automatically brings up a nice little software application that allows you to navigate through any photos on your hard disk, then select them and load them into the necklace. Pretty easy and I didn't need the instructions to figure it out.
What's cool is that I didn't have to do anything to the photos to compress them - somehow it takes like 10 MP photos and does a very good job of re-analyzing them and getting them into the 3/4" by 1/2" screen format. Amazing! Click "Download" and they're saved on the device and you're ready to go.
It has a built-in slide show with nice little random transitions from one photo to the next. You can change some of the settings, like backlighting, how long the photos are displayed and etc., but I didn't mess with it and it works fine.
I haven't had to recharge it yet, believe it or not -- there's a little button that turns it on and off, and my wife has it hanging on her ID necklace from work and she turns it on occasionally for other people to see and admire. A couple of other buttons allow you to scroll back and forth between photos if you'd like, but I think it works best in automatic slide show mode.
The battery charges via the USB port and here's a tip: you don't have to keep your computer running all the time to recharge it -- if you have a powered USB hub, it has power going to it all the time from the wall, so just plug the necklace (or any other USB charged device) into the powered USB hub and it will recharge whether your computer is on or not.
Bottom line - this is a pretty cool little trinket, my wife loves it and everyone who sees it thinks it's amazing. The screen resolution isn't great but who cares? It's a load of fun.

Panasonic Dect 6.0 4-Handset Cordless Phone with Answering Machine (KX-TG6434T) Review

Panasonic Dect 6.0 4-Handset Cordless Phone with Answering Machine (KX-TG6434T)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had this system for 2 days and I am so pleased with it.
I bought this system to block collection calls aimed at the
previous owner of our recycled verizon phone number. We have
been baraged with these collection calls with no way other than
changing our phone number to stop them. (I found out that the national
do not call registry doesn't apply to bill collectors!) My wife
didn't want to change our phone number due to the hassle of notifying
everyone and no assurance that the new phone number wouldn't also
have the same problem. I have been looking for a way to block
specific phone numbers on our land line verizon phone, and this
is the ONLY way I have found to do that.
This system allows entry of up to 30 phone numbers to block. The
numbers can be keyed in after entering a code on any of the
4 handsets. The number is then blocked on all the handsets and the
answering machine. Or if I get a call from a number I wish to block
I can navigate to the option to block that number with a few key
strokes. (Naturally you need to have caller id service on your phone
for this feature to recognize the incoming phone numer).
To test the call blocking I blocked my cell phone, and when I called
my main number. I got a single ring, a fast busy for a few seconds and
then a disconnect. On the Panasonic phone I just heard a single ring
and then blessed silence. A few times a day we hear the one ring and
know a call is being blocked. We no longer check the caller id list
to know who called and got blocked - it doesn't matter. No answering
the phone or removing crummy collection messages from the answering
machine. It works !!!
In addition to call blocking, other features I really like is the large print
bright black on white lcd display on the handsets, the ability to mute the ring
on selected handsets (like the one in the bedroom). The ability to mute
the ring on the answering machine (also in the bedroom). The ability to use
any of the 4 handsets to check messages, and to record the answering machine
greeting. The ability to answer a call on more than one handset at the same
time (no more hokey transfering of calls from one handset to another).
This system is heads and shoulders above our last system. The Panasonic
Dect 6 technology is a new generation of features. I know I sound like
a commercial, but I am that pleased. If you check my other reviews and you will
see I tell it like I see it, good or bad.
... added 8/17/09 ...
I forgot to mention another good feature, the answering machine turns off
if I pick up the phone while someone is rcording a message... no more trying
to get the answering machine turned off to avoid feedback, while trying to
take the call.
Regarding the text to speech feature which announces the caller's name
from their caller ID, we don't use it. It is primitive and difficult to
understand but if you needed it you could get used to the voice chip
translation of your caller's name. The reason I don't use it is because
I wanted less disturbance from calls and I found the mangled caller
ID announcement a bit jarring.
In regard to call blocking, it has drastically reduced the annoyance of
the harassing calls we were receiving. The blocked numbers have mostly
stopped calling, and when one company called with a different number,
it only took a few seconds to add that number to the blocked list.

Tonium P666 Pacemaker Pocket-Sized DJ System, 60 GB Review

Tonium P666 Pacemaker Pocket-Sized DJ System, 60 GB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just got my Pacemaker a few weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it! I had a couple of Numark (monster) TTX tables with a Stanton xfader when I was younger and the biggest pain was just getting the things around. Even with CDJs its pretty tough to move gear around. So the Pacemaker works out really well as far as portability goes!
Loading MP3s is not too hard, beware if you have a lot of older iTunes tracks, you'll have to *upgrade* them to the DRM-free format for $0.30/track to get them on to your Pacemaker, just something to consider. That can set you back hundreds if you have a good sized music collection tied up in iTunes.
You've really got to know your music because when you scroll through the tracks, you only get track titles and BPM displayed. Once you start playing the track, you get all the info. I havent played with the mix editor software too much but it installed easily seems easy enough, not as intuitive as iTunes but it shouldnt give you too many headaches if you're just trying to get music on the Pacemaker.
As far as "gigging" with it, if you're going to a party with a bunch of your friends and want to entertain, this is good but you're tethered to the thing all evening, you might be better off spending the $500 bones on some good music, making some really great playlists on your iPod and just letting it go to shuffle. Then you can hang with everyone at the party.
If you got really sharp with it (I am not...working on it though) its pretty reasonable to play 3-4 hours of play with lots of different music using pitch bend and effects to really get some unique flavor into what you're playing. After using it LOTS the past few weeks, I'm pretty confident it wont lock up on you in the middle of your set. It hasnt ever locked up on me and i've done some pretty impressive combinations of inputs that the folks at Tonium probably never counted on.
The auto beat matching is stupid easy, but if you sync a 85 BPM hip hop track with a 130 BPM dance track you'll get just what you ask for ;-) The pitch bend is a cool tool too but depending on the bit rate/compression of your MP3s (i guess those are fancy words for 'quality' of your MP3s) your music will sound really degraded as you slow it down.
So Im not going to pretend that it replaces the feel of vinyl or the slide of the fader but as far as just getting hours behind your music and getting to know it and thinking up good mixes, this is a great player.
Sorry for the random thoughts, I really love it though and its becoming my go to MP3 player just because of the ability to get into my music in ways that I only used to be able to with my old gear. $500 is something to think about but dont fret about the quality and finish of it, its just as sharp as anything Apple's put out (and i loves me some Apple stuff). Hope this is helpful!

Sony VRDMC6 DVDirect Compact Size DVD Burner with AVCHD Recording Review

I've stopped using my old hitachi video camera(from 2001)awhile ago since I never liked dragging it out, setting it up, charging it, finding a tape or lugging it around etc. But, none the less, I still have at least 10-12 mini cassette(8mm) tapes that needed to be put on DVD, as well as some old VHS tapes too. I haven't seen any of these home movies in years because watching a VHS is aggravating(waiting for it rewind?! geez. hello old school). I was so excited to hear about this and figured it would be a great idea to finally transfer my stuff.
Out of the box, it will literally take you moments to set up and start recording. If you're taping from a VCR, make sure you plug into the line OUT on the back of the VCR.
It formats the DVD disc for you, and when you press play on your video camera(or VCR) you also hit the big main button on the DVDirect to begin recording. If there's snow in your video for more then a few seconds, it pauses recording and resumes when the video kicks back in. You can choose 5 min, 10 min or 15 minute automatic chapter inserts, so it's easy to navigate a long video. Sound is good, but only as good as it was originally. If you have crappy sound on your old video camera, it'll be crappy on DVD. I wasn't expecting it to turn my stuff HD or work miracles, so this is exactly what I wanted and expected.
The screen on the DVDirect is easy to see and tells you how long you've been recording, when it's stopped, it tells you how long is left on the DVD to record. Only a few buttons, so it's simple to stay on track and not get lost in countless options, which means it won't be hard to figure out even for someone who's not good with technology. It does record live time, so you have to have a little patience. Press play, record, and walk away. Also, amazingly simple to finalize the DVD and pop it in a player and begin watching. I also notice on the box it says you can make photo slide shows with music. Pretty cool! Definitely a great buy for anyone with tons of old VHS and mini cassettes.

HP CM1017 Color Laserjet All in One Printer Review

HP CM1017 Color Laserjet All in One Printer
Average Reviews:

This HP Color LaserJet CM1017 is great. It is actually weighs less then my old Black and White Canon D780. What makes this printer great for me is the ability to copy and the ability to print color reliable. It's a excellent printer and now I don't have to worry about here are my thoughts so far.
Installation, dirt simple. Unpacked it, plugged it in to network, and turned it on. The LCD screen is easy to navagate and it prints out a nice sheet on the current network connection status. It quickly found my DHCP, I went to the IP and did some basic setup. Then popped in the CD, added a printer, pointed Windows XP to the CD's driver folder and I was in business. Very easy. Setting up my Mac was also easy.
After using my PrintFixPro color calibration the prints were very nice. Mostly I plan on printing out Google directions and invoices but this is a great printer.
Over all everything about the printer is good, so it would take too long to list them. But there are a couple issues. People complain about the lack of Fax features, but I don't miss that at all. Use eFax! It's way better then a standard Fax machine.
So, the only issue I have, is that the Duplexing is "manual" which to mean's it doesn't have duplexing. This doesn't matter too much to me but it's pretty lame. The sibling HP printer all support duplexing, and I think this printer should too. Oh well. It does have software duplexing build into the driver which is sorta handy, but I think real duplexing would have been better.
Oh well... still it's a great printer, and it's great for mix environments like ours. Finding a good MFP for Macs and PC's is hard.

Uniden DECT2080-3 DECT 6.0 Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID and 2 Extra Handsets and Charging Cradles Review

Uniden DECT2080-3 DECT 6.0 Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID and 2 Extra Handsets and Charging Cradles

I just rec'd this system (w/total of 5 handsets in the set: #2080-5) a few days ago from a different vendor and so far I am very happy!! I had been using the Uniden TRU9485 and loved that phone system with one glaring exception: Two of the four phones furthest from the base kept cutting out constantly, with the message "out of range" on the screen despite only being maybe 50 feet or less from the base in my one-story home. Made those 2 phones virtually unusable. This was a 5.8 GHz phone but it was no good for me!
So, here I am with the new DECT 1.9 GHz version and so far, no problem. It has virtually all the same features as the TRU with slightly different cosmetics. The Uniden 2080-5, with the 5 handsets (we have a larger home) do have a cute little addition: two of the silver/black phones have a brightly colored frame: one in metallic red, the other in met. blue - kinda kicky. Xln't sound, including the speakerphones, which is a feature I use 70% of the time. Phone directory holds 70 listings and can be auto-dialed with a quick press of the button. Enter your phone numbers and names just once and you can then send it to all the other extension phones without having to retype them in individually. Each phone can also add their own entries. Has intercom bet. the extension phones, Caller ID, which I don't use, the usual digital answering machine with up to 4 min. message allowed per caller. But, book says when retrieving your messages remotely, after listening to 4 min. of messages, machine will stop and require you to push 2 buttons if you need to hear more messages: a bit of a bother, but 4 min. of messages IS quite a lot for most, unless you have a lot of wordy friends who read to you daily from War and Peace. Keypad and screen light up nicely for night viewing by pressing any key. Each phone has a little light on top that will flash to let you know an unheard message is available. You can then play back that message from any of the extension phones, a nice convenience so you don't have to go to where the base is located to retrieve them. Ans. machine will emit a message beep if there are any new ones for you or you can turn that alert off. A lot of options with these phones: individual volume controls for both earpiece and speakerphone, method of answering the phone (press any key to answer or automatically have it connect with caller by just picking up the phone from the charger or base) - are just a few. Most important to me: the distance from base doesn't seem to affect the connections - yay!! A very long talk time is present - 12 hours stated, I believe. I've talked a couple hours without the battery signal even stepping down. Book says can leave phone off the charger for up to seven days, but I'm more conservative.
Oh, for those of you that don't know - another wonderful feature: Only the ans. machine base needs to be plugged into a phone jack. All the extensions only need an electrical outlet, no phone connection! Little complaints: too few choices for types of ring when receiving a call, wish there were a couple more letters allowed when entering the names & nbrs. into the auto-dial directory (16 letters/spaces allowed). But, those are petty. This is an excellent phone or my name isn't Bill Gates (okay, just kidding about the name!); you'll be pleased! ... Arline

The Uniden DECT2080-3 DECT 6.0 Cordless Digital Answering System includes a base station, two charging cradles, and three handsets. Because the phone uses DECT technology, which uses the 1.9 GHz frequency range, there is no interference with wireless networks, microwave ovens, cordless phones, and other household items. The result is less interference, more range, and better security. The built-in digital answering machine has a recording time of 14 minutes.
Each handset can hold up to 100 phonebook entries, displayed on the three-line backlit LCD. Caller ID is supported, and with call waiting caller ID you can see who's calling even when you are already on the line. The DECT2080-3 comes with three handsets and can be expanded to a total of six handsets working with the single base. A conference feature lets you hold a three-way conversation between your handset, an external caller, and another handset user. A speakerphone is built into the handset, rather than the base, so you can bring the speakerphone with you wherever you go. The handset features up to 16 hours of talk time and a 10-day standby. The Uniden DECT2080-3 DECT 6.0 Cordless Digital Answering System is backed by a 1-year warranty.

Skipdoctor CD Repair Kit Review

Skipdoctor CD Repair Kit

I've repaired 10 CDs with this product and a DVD as well. Some of the scratches were fairly deep too. It works up to a point. It has also ruined a couple of my DVDs despite my ising it exactly the same way and following instructions. The key is to keep the disk wet (with very clean water) and to have a functional sanding wheel. After the sanding disk begins to wear it will begin to sand in a slightly non-radial direction. Once the new sand marks become non-radial it makes the disc worse than it was before. I.E. This product only works if the sanding direction is close to radial. For those that say that it scratches their disks even worse, there is partial truth here... it does sand radially. The CD/DVD will still work as long as the new sand marks stay radial in direction-- this is the key. When the marks start to become non-radial, this is your cue to throw the sanding disk away and replace it. (and redo the CD/DVD you were just working on with the new disk). It also helps to clean the sanding wheel after usage. I was tired of reading reviews from people that either state its great or garbage, but not qualifying either. The fact is that the product does work but in my experience only 10 CDs before it will fail and need replacement parts. I've also noticed that DVDs require much more buffing after sanding in order to work. Then again I've had to do a lot of sanding to affect individual repairs; my 10 repairs could very well be 30 of other people's repairs. One repair in particualar was note worthy. My company created a master documentation CD but no backups. Then a certain person, bleary eyed, wrote with permanent marker on the wrong side of the disk. This tool brought it back from the dead and saved us a lot of time and money. Expect to replace the sanding wheel and watch the direction of the sanding marks and things should go well for you.

Cobra GPSM 2100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

Cobra GPSM 2100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Went to the store with every intention of purchasing TomTom One or the comparably priced Garmin GPS I had researched online for the past week. Really confusing considering all of GPS reviews I'd read gave no definitive explanations on why one rated over the other. Since it all seemed to come down to personal preference, I figured the only way to make a final decision was to demo each model at the store.
The TomTom One would not work! Each time I started to enter an address, the unit would revert back to demo ads. The Garmin model I was interested in was not on display. The sales clerk was kind enough to turn on the TomTom go to demo, but it annoyingly shifted between a loud demo and attempting to pick up a signal. If not for this, I would have overlooked the Cobra 2100 entirely.
What first caught my attention was price. Having failed to demo the units I wanted, the Cobra 2100 was the only GPS on display within my price range. In fact, it was the same price as TomTom One, but appeared to be larger. Side by side comparison made TomTom One look like a toy! I clicked through the various demo options and watched a simulation of a drive from the store to my home. Fine, yet I still had my heart set on the TomTom and was about to find another store to demo the model, but I changed my mind.
Though never owning any Cobra products, I'm aware that Cobra was a big name in radar detection at one time. In addition to GPS navigation, the Cobra 2100 comes with traffic light camera detection and speed alerts already installed. There are more traffic light cameras being installed throughout Baltimore City everyday. This feature and the Cobra name convinced me to give the 2100 a try.
Had the 2100 installed and operating in no top flat. As mentioned elsewhere online, it took more time to get it out of the box than it took to connect it. Once turned on it quickly detected a signal and showed me my present location. After quickly scanning through the menu, I typed in my home address, clicked 'NAVIGATE' and was routed to my destination.
The Cobra 2100 offers a clear visual presentation of the route you're traveling while giving clear and precise verbal directions of how to proceed. Advisories are given continually and well in advance of any turns or deviations from your present course. There is no text-to-speech, though IMHO, none is needed as a quick glance identifies all streets along your route.
Options are given to choose specific routes, but I ignored this on my initial run. The Cobra 2100 (like MapQuest, sometimes) attempted to route me away from what I knew to be a quicker route. Upon ignoring the route suggested, the Cobra 2100 quickly recalculated, suggesting a route based on my adjustment. I followed the same route later, this time taking the route suggested by the Cobra 2100. Cobra added an additional 10 minutes to my journey by unnecessarily routing me on and off the interstate. The "detour" consisted of a series of rapid lane changes and turns. As it was night and the maneuvers demanded I pay strict attention to driving, I didn't chance glancing at the screen. To it's credit, the Cobra 2100 provided precise verbal navigation so there was no need to watch anything but the road. I find I'm not particularly concerned about Cobra's routing suggestion. Had I been unfamiliar with the area, the additional 10 minutes would not be factor at all since the Cobra 2100 WILL, it demonstrates, get me to your destination safely.
Oh...before I forget...I passed through one of those camera intersections while testing the Cobra. It signals the driver by producing a series of camera clicking sounds and displays an on-screen traffic icon as an advisory.
WAY COOL!
