(More customer reviews)we received this printer as a gift, brand new. it was the perfect choice: we needed a multifunction printer to use with multiple computers. wireless connectivity definitely delivers! we had no problem setting up the computers with the included cd. the print quality was very good as well, taking care of every job we gave it.
however, the ink that came with the printer ran out within a few weeks. a few weeks! we had some big print jobs coming up, and needed the reliability of a big cartridge, so we bought the 44XL black cart. again, in just over a month, the printer said that it was getting low on ink. liar! after that message, it reliably shot out another 200 pages! to my dismay, it reminded me that we were almost out of ink before each print job; we were forced to hit ok on the printer, otherwise it would not start.
looking for a replacement cartridge after it finally kicked the bucket, i decided it might be an adventure to try and refill the cartridge. its cheaper, similar quality ink, and very economical. the refill process was no problem at all, it was the printer that gave me trouble. when i re-inserted the "empty" cartridge, it exclaimed that lexmark cannot be held liable for non-lexmark inks. ok, so they are on to me, fine. now, i have to hit ok TWICE before each print job, once for the liability page, and once for the out of ink page! it also gives a message on my computer saying that we are out of ink and should order more from the lexmark website (yeah right). it still prints with the same quality, its just very annoying to not be able to refill your own cartridges, or even buy certified refilled cartridges!
overall, the experience is fine. we got used to hitting ok on the printer to let the job though, and the print quality is still great. in the future, i would probably purchase a more user-friendly printer and simply attach a wireless print server.
