Allsop Redmond Monitor Stand - Black Review

Allsop Redmond Monitor Stand - Black

I got this for my 22" flat panel. The shape of the legs gives you some nice storage space under, but also make this thing pretty bouncy. Any time you touch it, it takes about 30 seconds to stop bouncing. I pushed on it pretty hard and it does seem plenty strong, but it sure does bounce a lot. Even with me pushing on it pretty hard, it never seemed like it would bounce my monitor off though. Also, it does tend to lean toward the front slightly when you put weight on it, so this one is not for you if your monitor does not have a tilt adjustment.

GE 28112EE2 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone with Digital Answerer and Caller ID Review

GE 28112EE2 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone with Digital Answerer and Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was very excited about this new phone system and all the wonderful features. I waited for weeks, then rush on the internet. Having use it for few days, I am quite deceived:
- The sound is so-so, it is sometime hard to understand people talking. Setting it to high make a slight "hum"
- The handset display is nearly unreadable, too bright with too thin fonts.
- Setting the phone is quite complicated (as compare to my former Panasonic)
- There a lot of frill options, but some other lacking (setting the display light for instance).
- At every power failure, the answering machine to be reset (how modern!),
- The speakerphone sound is "humming"
So, it is far from the description on the box.
I'd rather go for a 5,8 technology and another ... and wished I had buy it at Wal-Mart, so I could return it hassle free. But I didn't.

HP Photosmart Plus Wireless e-All-in-One Printer (CN216A#B1H) Review

HP Photosmart Plus Wireless e-All-in-One Printer (CN216A#B1H)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The printer was packaged in a light weight tote bag in the box, so I could just easily pull out the printer. In the box, there was a complementary 4x6 glossy photo paper (100pack) with a set of ink. A power cable and a brick came in a reusable cloth pouch, and I thought that was very nice idea since it's less trash and easily recyclable.

Setting up the printer couldn't be easier, even with wifi set up. I took about 15-20 minutes to set up everything: wifi, hp software, and the first time printer warm up. I also did not need to connect any USB cable to set up; instead, I was able to connect to my wifi network without any hassle. This printer alone acts like a computer, and it included a step by step set up assistant on the main screen, which was great. The instructions might show only WEP for security option, but I was able to connect to WPA2 with no problem, even in the closed network (airport extreme.) And since this printer has wifi connectivity, I didn't need any extra equipment to buy, and I figured that's why the printer didn't come with a USB cable.

Printing was also as easy as pie. I was satisfied with the sharp and fast printing result in both b/w and color documents. What was more satisfying is photo printing. I tried professionally prepared images on this printer (4x6 photo glossy, in photoshop with proper setting) and the result was better than my expensive Epson photo printer. I was surprised how accurate the color was, although de-saturated black and white photo print showed a bit of green cast.

Scanning and copying also do their job very well. I was able to scan easily with or without HP software on Mac. Copying is another simple and cool feature. I didn't even need my computer on. All I needed to do was press one button. If you need to change setting on any features, you can do that as well with no effort on its easy UI screen.

Apps! I never knew printers had apps. Yes, why not? As I mentioned, this printer acts like a computer, and it's connected to the Internet. Applications included: Yahoo and MSNBC, PBS Kids (great for coloring sheets!!!), Sudoku, Disney, USA Today, Quick Forms, Dreamworks, recipes, Nickelodeon, weather, and coupons. It's just amazing what printers can do now. My three old son saw me printing a coloring page from PBS Kids app, and now he can just do that by himself, similarly as if he was navigating an Iphone. (Actually the screen looks like a big Iphone.) Also, I can manage these apps from the HP website that my printer is connected to (registration required.)

Snapfish is another nice feature about this printer. There is a SD/MMC card slot that this printer can read photo files for printing and uploading/sharing to snapfish. With this HP photo smart printer, I really don't need a computer to print photos and share online with friends and family. I only wish this printer had a USB slot instead of a SD/MMC card only slot. I know SD/MMC cards are kind of standard these days, yet there are also people with CF cards and other types.

The most advanced feature this printer can offer, I think, is the ePrint. This printer has its own email address, so just by sending an email to the printer, it will print out documents and photos. This is really useful if you have a smart phone and don't want to buy a printing app which usually isn't cheap. When I emailed a word file for testing, it printed immediately. Also, attached a jpg photo file to the email printed the attached photograph on the photo paper pulled from tray. The printer automatically decided where to print (between regular paper and photo paper) depending on the file type I sent to the email, which I can also manage in the setting.

Finally, if you have an iphone, you will love this feature. There is a photo printing app (HP iPrint) from HP in the app store for free. I was able to print photos from my iphone instantly(under same wifi network). I was so happy with this that I printed more than 50 photos, and the results were just wonderful. One thing I noticed was the photos were slightly lighter than what I see on my Iphone screen.

There are a couple of things I'd like to mention. This printer has a speaker somewhere so it makes button sounds. Since the buttons on the touch screen are pressure sensitive (I might be wrong), it's neat to hear that button sound when I press something. I didn't have to wonder whether the button was really pressed when touched. And this printer falls asleep after idle time; the illuminated power button will then start breathing (Mac computers do this during sleep mode. However, when the printer receives email or jobs, it wakes up instantly and starts printing. This may not be very important, but I could tell that HP paid attention to details when they made this printer.
Overall, this printer is most definitely worth the purchase. I have not stopped fiddling with this printer since I received it. I guarantee consumers will be happy with HP (finally!).
UPDATE
HP just updated their iPrint iphone app as universal binary some days ago, so it works beautiful on my iPad as well. Great for printing my kid's iPad art work !!!!!

Garmin nüvi 650 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

Garmin nüvi 650 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have have a been a long time Garmin GPS customer including three generations of the Streetpilot. I am very pleased with the Nuvi 650 echoing some of the praises you've read here in the reviews.
However for those of who are on the fence about getting the 650 versus the 660 for the extra Bluetooth, FM transmitter and traffic receiver, I want to offer you some more reasons to consider the 660. The Nuvi 650 does not include the leather carrying case, AC adapter and printed manual which comes standard with the 660 packaging ($50 value).
As a an old time Garmin user, I am used to having these items come with my GPS. In addition, the Nuvis do not include CD/DVD map software nor the friction mount (must buy separately esp. for California and Minnesota). Considering how easy it is now for users to access the memory space of the Nuvi from their computers, it's much easier to corrupt the system unintentially. Thats when you'll need the original map software to recover.
Don't get me wrong, I do like the Nuvi 650 over my Streetpilot 2720 for it's size, improve user interface and the SirF Star III receiver for much more reliable GPS reception. But I can only give this product 4 stars because of the lack of accessories that I find essential for my usage and yet comes standard for the Nuvi 660, 670 and 680.

I purchased the Built NY sleeve and another sleeve simultaneuosly - you simply could not compare the two. The quality of the Built NY was by far superior in almost every way. The zipper is stronger and sturdier, the padding is thicker and nicer. The extra pockets on the outside provide for the little something extra to store all the cable mess and to top it all off it was large enough to fit my HP pavillion 17" snuggly and firmly enough that I felt that it was really protected and not just flopping around in a cover.

Garmin eTrex H Handheld GPS Navigator Review

Garmin eTrex H Handheld GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my primary Geocaching GPS. The high sensitivity chip has the same strong processing power, and thus signal sensitivity and position resolution, as any of the more expensive units. It gives me excellent accuracy in areas where my older GPS units just give up, even dense forest cover. The software that drives the unit is the same as the older Yellow model (see below) and has stood the test of time.
If you're only interested in point to point navigation (geocaching, trail tracks or just finding your way back to the car or the ski chalet), then this unit will do a great job for a no-regrets price. If you're looking for road network navigation, then this isn't for you.
Be aware that this is the 'H', for 'High Sensitivity' unit, introduced in 2007. It's appearance is almost identical to older Yellow Etrex units, the difference being "High Sensitivity" in red letters just above the screen. Although the older units do work and may still be found, their worth is significantly lessened by the availability of this unit. That's something to keep in mind when looking at used or "new old stock" units at other venues.
One thing that other reviews mention is true - straight out of the box it takes a long time (hours) to acquire it's almanac (a digital description of where satellites are in the sky which is transmitted periodically) and then it's satellite signals. Mine took at least 3 hours and had me thinking it was defective until it finally locked in. Don't despair, this is a one-time thing - once accomplished, start-up time is about 5 seconds.

Perfect for outdoor enthusiasts on a budget, the Garmin eTrex H GPS navigator helps you navigate your way through the toughest terrain. The unit is equipped with a high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver, which locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover and deep canyons. The advantage is clear: whether you're traipsing through thick woods or strolling near tall buildings and trees, you can count on the eTrex H to help you find your way when you need it the most. And just like the original eTrex, this little yellow wonder is intuitive and rugged, with a lightweight housing that fits comfortably in the palm of your hand.
The eTrex H is a breeze to use, with five buttons on either side of the navigator facilitating one-handed operation. The four-level gray LCD display, meanwhile, is easy to read in a shade or daylight. And you needn't fret should the weather turn, as the eTrex H is IPX7 waterproof, so it can withstand an accidental splash or dunk in the water and still continue to perform.
Functionally, the navigator stores up to 500 waypoints in its memory for easy retrieval, with names and graphic symbols to highlight the selections. Users will also appreciate Garmin's exclusive TrackBack feature, which lets you reverse your track (up to 20 reversible routes) and navigate back to your starting point. And the automatic track log offers 10 saved tracks (with 10,000 points), along with the ability to retrace your path in both directions. Other details include a hunting and fishing calculator, sun and moon information, and a serial PC interface.
The eTrex H, which runs for up to 17 hours on a pair of AA batteries (not included), measures 2.0 by 4.4 by 1.2 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty.

MSI AIO AE1900-05SUS 18.5-Inch Touch Screen Desktop PC - White Review

MSI AIO AE1900-05SUS 18.5-Inch Touch Screen Desktop PC - White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the AE1900-05SUS for my 11 & 14 year old daughters. I was a little apprehensive given the very positive AND very negative reviews this system has received. I was even more nervous when the computer arrived with its factory seal broken (see previous review). However, after investing a good 4-5 hours into setting up the computer, I do appear to have a very nice system.
There are several things that could be improved with this system. First, the keyboard and mouse are passable but not great (keyboard keys are noisy). They also take up 2 of the 4 USB slots. I-Rocks makes a nice looking RF wireless keyboard/mouse combo that would go nicely with this system. Second, I opted for the faster processor/larger RAM version of the AE1900 which comes loaded with Vista. I am not a fan of Vista. Third, the MSI Wind Touch interface is nice, but I have not yet been able to figure out how to add additional programs/applications, which you are supposed to be able to do (I have not tried MSI support yet). Without this capability, the interface is not really useful. Fourth, the system does boot up slower than I am used to, although I am spoiled by my ASUS 1000H. Based on reviews that I've read, this could be partly due to Vista and partly due to the MSI Wind Touch interface. Fifth, many of the programs listed in this interface are trial versions requiring users to purchase licenses within the first month or two of use. There does not, however, appear to be bloatware. Finally, the DVD-RW drive works well, but does appear to be a little flimsy when opened.
There are several things about this system that are extremely nice. First, other than a little disk drive noise during boot-up, the system is extremely quiet. Second, other than the DVD-RW drive, the system is solidly built. Third, once calibrated the touchscreen works extremely well. Fourth, the screen looks incredible. Fifth, the system is light enough to move from room to room. Sixth, the webcam and facial recognition software work extremely well. Seventh, the system comes with 2 touchscreen keyboards. As mentioned in a previous review, one of these keyboards is rather small and requires use of a stylus. The keyboard that comes with the Soft-Stylus program is, however, big enough to use with ones fingers AND one can make the keyboard even larger. One would, however, need to install Windows 7 to have these keyboards automatically launched when text input is required. Personally, I find a normal keyboard to be more convenient. Finally, the system is fairly responsive even with Vista running. I did, however, change the power settings to maximize performance rather than maximize energy efficiency.
If I would have stopped at this point, I probably would have given the computer a 6.5 to 7 out of 10, consistent with a lot of the "expert" reviews one can find on the web (computershopper, i4u, etc.). I did, however, decide to spend a few extra hours downloading and installing additional software. Some of the software was recommended to prolong the battery life of netbooks (i.e., they have a smaller footprint and require less resources than alternatives). The VLC media player and the Foxit pdf reader fall into this category. Google's Chrome web-browser also falls into this category, but I loaded Mozilla Firefox instead, since: 1) my daughter's are more familiar with it and 2) Chrome is nice and fast, but not as stable as Firefox. I also loaded freeware that replaces some of the trial software installed on this system, most notably Open Office (one could also go with Oxygen Office) and the AVG antivirus program. Finally, I downloaded software which helps improve the overall user experience. This included GMABooster to improve graphics performance (risk of some instability), Google's Picasa 3 for photo editing, SRS Audio Sandbox to improve audio performance, and (as mentioned in a previous review) BumpTop. I was seriously considering loading Windows 7, but turning off the MSI Wind Touch interface and launching BumpTop makes this un-necessary (at least not until Windows 7 is officially released and supported). Once all these changes were made, I had a system that I would rate at least 8 out of 10. If removing the MSI Wind Touch interface from the startup menu noticeably reduces boot-up time, I might even give it a 9 out of 10. The BumpTop software is what makes it "sing", which is how a reviewer at techstauf4 described the system once he installed Windows 7. Windows Vista + the MSI Wind Touch interface appear to hold this system back. BumpTop and Windows 7 (according to techstauf4) appear to help demonstrate the system's capabilities.
FINAL ADDENDUM: I figured out how to modify the MSI Wind Touch interface, but it involves editing an XML file with NotePad and running the program as an administrator (i.e., it is not very user friendly). I also found an online article on 12 things that can be turned off in Vista to reduce boot times and improve performance (e.g., the sidebar and Aero). Boot times were still about 1.5 minutes. I was finally able to reduce boot times by: 1) inserting 4GB ReadyBoost enabled flash drive into one of the USB ports and 2) installing the $20 version of Advanced System Care which has the SmartDefrag, SmartRam, and GameBooster utilities which I do not believe come with the free version. After running the system analysis tool, SmartDefrag, and SmartRam, boot times dropped to about 1 minute. Use of GMABooster, the ReadyBoost flash drive, and either SmartRAM or GameBooster (game mode of latter turns off touchscreen) produced a system that flew through SIMS 2. With the AE1900-01SUS XP system, one would use FreeRAM XP Pro (which is free) rather than SmartRAM. The final cost of a system I would give 9 out of 10: $600 for AE1900-05SUS (cheap as $585 on web), $45-50 for I-Rocks RF wireless keyboard/mouse (not necessary), $20 for Advanced System care (highly recommended), $29 for SRS Audio Sandbox (a must), $29 for BumpTop (although less functional free version more advisable), $10 donation for GMABooster (although can use for free), and $0 for AVG antivirus, Ad-Adware spyware, CCleaner (not required with Advanced System Care), FoxIt Reader, Google Chrome browser, Firefox browser, VLC media player, Media Player Classic - HomeCinema, Picasa 3, Google Earth, Open Office, iTune, Videora converter for iPods, and Sumo Paint (online app). BumpTop, Google Earth, and Sumo Paint are all rather amazing when run on the AE1900's touchscreen. The downsides of BumpTop are: 1) I've had to reset it almost every time the system has gone into sleep mode and 2) it uses ~100 MB more RAM than the MSI Wind Touch interface. It is an amazing app though. Final time invested is probably at least 10 hours. I think it was worth it. (NOTE: BumpTop has turned out to be a little too unstable ... too msny resets. We are going to try RocketDock, which will give it even more of an iMac feel. FOLLOW UP: I created a new folder on the desktop called ShortCuts. I moved all desktop short-cuts into this folder and placed all programs frequently used on RocketDock. I then downloaded and installed Yahoo widgets, which I prefer to Vista sidebar gadgets. I used auto-hide for both widgets and RocketDock. I used 360desktop to enable each daughter to create a 360 degree panoramic desktop of their choice. The net result was a very nice and clean desktop with easy access to everything that one needs. All 3 apps are free, although panning within the 360desktop is not fully functional via touch. If you just want to plug-in the computer and go, then this is an OK computer. The $700 Lenovo A600 might be a better choice. It is more powerful, but does not have a touchscreen and is twice as heavy. If you invest some time into setting this computer up, it is really, really nice.)

Lexmark X8350 Color All-in-One Plus Photo Features with USB Cable Review

Lexmark X8350 Color All-in-One Plus Photo Features with USB Cable
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this printer at Circuit City two weeks and couldn't be more pleased with it. Installation went very somoothly, and I disabled my anti-virus program as recommended in the instructions. Set up was easy, and I was up and running in about 15 minutes. The printer controls are very intuitive, and my wife had no trouble doing her first scan for a craft project. The copy feature is especially handy, and I was able to make very acceptable copies of some insurance forms. We sent a test fax and it went through very easily. Ink was easy to install, and I am satisifed with the color and clarity of the print. Print speed is good. I plan to try the photo cartridge at a later date.
The most impressive feature of this printer is how well it is built. I compared the x8350 to several HP and Canon models, and was most impressed with the Lexmark quality; e.g. the paper tray is rock solid compared to the two other brands. This is a great all-in-one printer for the money. (the model I purchased did not have a USB cable included).

Where to start...the price was right, some good reviews, so I went for it. Shipping was fast. It fits just sort of ok as it sticks out a hair more than the Apple battery. It seems that the battery is the right size, but they glue an aluminum sheet over it to match the finish of the Macbook Pro and that makes it too thick. Cheesy, but it is on the back where it doesn't show... It does snap into place properly. The memory stick did come with the order.
The first few cycles were odd in that the battery status box would show all sorts of varying times remaining, all the way from around half an hour to over three hours. After many cycles it seems to have settled down and shows a consistent two plus hour time at full charge. In actual modest computing use, not plotting missions to Mars or anything, it does seem to last for around two hours.
When I click on the battery dialogue box, the one in the upper right-hand corner above the menu bar, the "Service Battery" caution appears. Nothing seems wrong, no odd behaviors or anything at all. I suspect that this happens because this is a non-Apple device and doesn't have the secret handshake. This happens with some other devices that are not "approved" by Apple.
In Amazon's product photos there is an image of some sort of certification. Whatever this really means, it didn't come with my battery order.
The little green LED status lights on the battery light up sequentially when being charged, but then turn off when the charging is complete and do not turn on again until the next recharging session. They don't count down as the battery is depleted. Strangely, my nearly dead original Apple battery does that as well. I never used that feature when the MBP was new, so I can't honestly say this is a fault. In any case, the LED status lights are useless.
I contacted Amazon with my concerns and they forwarded my email to Genuine Adapters, evidently without the order number(!) GA promptly asked for that number and I provided it. After that, no response. I emailed a couple of times since, asking if they needed any more information, but no response at all. I don't know if this is an unusual situation for this company or not.
One reviewer said that AGPTEK batteries are good. There is no indication that this is an AGPTEK product and, in fact, there is no indication of any particular brand at all.
Note that Amazon's description is that it is a product of "Brainydeal", but sold by "Genuine Adapters" and fulfilled by Amazon. I suspect that there are all sorts of marketers who buy these things as commodities and so the sources and branding changes all the time. As a consequence, the quality and service is ever-changing. The next seller might be "Acme Power Source" or whatever, and it might be the same battery I got, or another one. Who knows. There is a lot of electronic debris out there.
Replacement batteries are a huge business. It would be nice if Amazon would step in and sort this out by identifying solid manufacturers and promoting their products directly. The "Affiliates" are a crapshoot when they are marketing unbranded devices like this.
Surprisingly, at this point I am keeping the battery. It works ok and it is half the price of the very over-priced Apple unit. This is a risk. The thing could die in a month or blow up on my lap (yikes), but I have put enough effort into this and just want to get on with things.
Two stars because it works, with some cautions, and the price is right. The other concerns are serious enough to knock off three stars. I consider this to be a risky purchase. If you feel flush, are ok with enabling Apple's silly-high price for replacement batteries (I am not) and do not want to have to deal with affiliates or have other issues, then buy the Apple battery.
********************************
UPDATE: As I predicted as a possibility, the battery suddenly quit, completely dead, just after the 30 day Amazon return period expired. Amazon, true to its good reputation for customer service, still issued me a return and refunded my purchase. Thanks for that! I believe that Amazon stepped up because I had tried to contact the seller several times before the warranty period was up.
For all the reasons I mentioned in my initial review, reinforced by my actual experience of a defective product sold by an unresponsive marketer, I strongly suggest you do not take a chance. As onerous as Apple's price for a genuine battery is, there does not seem to be a viable alternative.
You hear of battery fires and of defective batteries damaging computers. Luckily, my battery merely died. Don't take a chance.
Of course, I would change my rating to 0 stars if I could.

5.8GHZ Amplified Cordless Telephone Review

5.8GHZ Amplified Cordless Telephone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I needed a telephone that can boost the caller's voice by at least 50 decibels (db). There are not many telephones that have that much amplification power, but the Clarity C4220 does (as well as a few other brands).
' The Clarity telephones are unique in that they not only boost the sound level of the caller's voice, but also eliminate background noise and give you tone adjustment controls to give you the best quality signal to noise ratio.
' This telephone has an extra loud visual ringer that can amplify the ringer volume up to 88db.
' The Clarity C4220 has a speaker phone that is handy when you are trying to keep up with automated menus asking you to make a number selection on your keyboard and listen too.
' This telephone can be wall mounted.
' This telephone also gives you the choice of using its 2.5mm jack for a headset, or the 3.5mm jack for a neck loop.
' A setting will automatically return the amplification level back to the normal level when I hang up. However, if I was the only one using this telephone, I could keep the same amplification I previously used.
' Be aware that the manufacturer recommends plugging the power cord for this telephone into a wall outlet that has no other appliances plugged into that same outlet. Failure to do this can cause the telephone to act erratic. Otherwise, this telephone is very dependable and operates very well.
After years of trying various amplified telephones, I can highly recommend the Clarity telephones.

I bought these Panasonic Phones having purchased Panasonic phones before. The two features I love the most are the voice enhancer, which allows you to hear who is calling, and the fact that all the phones work together at the same time means all four of my family members can be on the phone at the same time speaking to our son at college!! The phones hold a good long charge if left off their holders for a couple of days and the sound quality is fantastic! The only minor issue I have is that I wish I could raise the volume even higher to hear our voice messages, which can be played from any of the 4 phones. I also love the fact that once you enter a phone number into the address book, it automatically appears in all 4 phones. Additionally, what's also nice is that you can set each phone to ring at a certain volume, so I can silence my teenager's phone so that the phones will ring in all locations but his. That means he won't be awakened by early morning calls! I highly recommend this product to families with the need for phones in every room.

HP TouchSmart 600-1120 All-in-One PC (Black) Review

HP TouchSmart 600-1120 All-in-One PC (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had a laptop for years, and since it was running out of space, I was looking for a decent computer with a big hard drive. This definitely fits those requirements, but put a big emphasis on "decent."
Taking the (freaking huge) screen/computer out of the box for the first time, I couldn't help but be impressed. Being a half a foot larger than my laptop's screen, I'm basically looking at a landscape instead of a screen. Colors are crisp, no immediate problems, but consider the following if you're just going to use the thing for web-browsing: most sites aren't ready to be presented in a screen this big. Yahoo, Myspace, all the usuals will have wide white bars to the side. Youtube videos that don't have at least 480P (and preferably 720) will look incredibly small OR very grainy in the full screen mode.
Luckily, this all-in-one thing lives up to its name, and includes a very nice selection of outputs. A HDTV tuner for a cable box, several jack types for games (SPDIF means audio transfer...yay?), along with an IR receiver means it's basically a cable-ready TV and computer in one setup. Still yet, for those looking just at the basics of web surfing, perhaps a smaller screen wouldn't hurt.
I'm really just going to write off the touch controls as mere distractions. The big problem is the system's 2.13 or so GHz can't quickly handle some of the programs without stuttering or minor freezing. It doesn't kill the experience by far, but it's definitely irksome to wait that extra second for the screen to register that motion you just did. Some of the options are cool - importing an iTunes library into the touchscreen music player comes to mind - but ultimately not as fast or efficient as the good old fashioned mouse and keyboard.
Speaking of the mouse: get a new one. The HP mouse fits nicely in the hand, but lacks a forward/back button I seriously miss from the laptop mouse, misses the occasional click, and sometimes takes a split second to notice it's being moved around. The keyboard is sleek, flat, and almost perfect. I say almost, because the plastic bit at the bottom makes the space bar a little hard to hit, but other than that it's excellent. But the coolest goodie is the remote it comes with. Start a playlist on iTunes, skip the songs you don't want to hear, fast forward through a WMV, turn up/down the volume, it's a nice touch I didn't think I'd like on a computer.
If you need the strict basics of a computer, for internet or perhaps high-end gaming, I'd look for something a little stronger than the guts inside this thing. But if you feel like you'd made use of the several screen outputs, or have some video editing to do, this would probably fit the bill nicely as an entertainment device and basic work setup.

Bushnell Yardage Pro XGC Golf GPS Review

Bushnell Yardage Pro XGC Golf GPS
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did alot of research on the Golf GPS units before I made the decision to purchase the Bushnell XGC unit. I am extremely happy with this unit. Heres my summary-
- works like a charm
-battery life is excellent. I'd say I burn about 20% of the battery life for a round of golf.
-the golf course map and the scorecard features are really cool and very useful. Most courses I've played have the map feature. Some do not. At any time during the round you can get a scoring summary (birdies, pars, bogeys, putts etc).
-the contrast on the color screen is excellent. Plus you can change the contrast at any time.
-yardages are right on. A stroke saver.
-real easy to download the courses from the Bushnell website to the unit.
-price is really good for what you get.

Kensington Lift-off Portable Notebook Computer Cooling Stand - 60149 Review

Kensington Lift-off Portable Notebook Computer Cooling Stand - 60149
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I looked at about 8 different cooling stands all over the net until I narrowed it down to this one and something called the iLap, which was over 3 times more expensive than this one. My primary criteria for the stand was that it be able to be used while lying down flat on my back not just while sitting at a table/desk or upright on my lap. Another criteria was that it keep my clothing from getting hot from the laptop but that it not have to use one of my USB ports or electricity to power a fan like some of the cooling stands did. And lastly that it fit my 13.3" MacBook. Both Kensington and iLap fit all of this criteria. I ordered this one from Amazon and the iLap from the Apple Store. Both had near 5 star reviews.
The Kensington arrived about 3 days later and I began using it immediately. My primary worries turned out not to be issues when I opened the box and acutually was able to see the product. Those worries concerned two issues. 1. That the laptop would not really be cooler because it would touch the base of the stand which appeared to be a flat sheet of V shaped plastic. The unit actually has a large square hole on the top side to allow air to flow to the laptop base. 2. The laptop would slip around since there didn't seem to be anything to hold it in place (the iLap had a removable suede cushioned lip to hold the computer in place). Again this was unfounded because the same large square hole in the top side had a rubber (or rubber like anyway) ring all the way around it which holds the laptop in place. As a bonus it also fit my 15" Dell laptop. Both the 13.3" and the 15" laptops hang over the sides of the stand but that's not an issue. And the unit can easily be used while laying down in bed without raising the laptop too high or requiring me to place my hands at a weird uncomfortable angle in order to type or use the trackpad.
On the other hand the iLap arrived a day latter and was totally unusable. The removable suede cushion on the iLap required me to place my hands high above the laptop in a really awkward position in order to use the keyboard while lying down and using it without the cushion so I could position my hands comfortably resulted in the laptop not being stable and sliding all over the place. Additionally there was no opening in the iLap to allow air circulation although the stand was made out of aluminum with sand-blasted and silver anodized finish.
Bottom line I kept this Kensington stand (and I'm using it right now) and sent the iLap back for a refund.
I highly recommend this stand. And if it turns out not to be too durable as some have hypothesized and only lasts a year that will cost less than a nickel a day and I will just buy another one. However I don't believe this is going to happen.
