After my last Panasonic DECT 6.0 3-phone system inexplicably stopped working, I sought a similar replacement set. I've generally found Panasonic phones to be very reliable and figured my last purchase was simply a lemon (occasionally happens to the best). I ended up purchasing the KX-TG7433. The first thing I have to say is that the phone is gorgeous. The black shiny finish is much more sleek and attractive than the previous bland beige Panasonic I owned. The display is also much larger and vivid with a high-contrast black on gray LCD with large easily readable characters. The LCD and keypad are both well illuminated when any button is pushed. The time and date are prominently displayed on the LCD in standby mode. When you have a missed call or message waiting, it is also clearly displayed on the handset LCD, as well as a flashing amber LED on top of the handset. The set comes with three handsets, a base with built-in digital answering machine, and two charging bases for the extra handsets. In addition to the time and date, the LCD also displays icons for phone book, menu, and redial above their respective buttons. The center menu joystick is nice and intuitive, but it also brings about my only gripe. On my previous Panasonic phones, the most important buttons (caller ID, voice mail, redial, and phone book) were all one touch access. On this model, you have a few one touch items (mentioned above), but most features have to be accessed through the menu. Phone book items entered on one handset are automatically shared with the other handsets.
Voice quality is excellent as usual for Panasonic. Although I personally would prefer the volume to be a tad bit louder at the higher end, both the handset and speaker phone have adequate loudness and clarity for most people. There are no sudden drop outs or other sound issues like I occasionally experienced with the prior DECT 6.0 phone. The phone features talking caller ID, which is really cool. A female robotic voice will announce (or sometimes comically try her best to announce), the name of the caller (the voice cannot be changed, like on a GPS). The announcement is loud and clear and really comes in handy because you can decide whether or not to answer the phone if you are away from the handset, without disrupting whatever you're doing. The voice will also function as an alarm clock and even alert you when the battery is low. This model also has a new feature called "Choice Mail", which allows you to view caller ID info for pending messages and selectively choose and play them in any order. Sadly, this feature only works with the built in digital answer machine. If you subscribe to your telephone service provider's voice mail service, as I do, you're out of luck. Panasonic did not completely leave telecom voice mail service subscribers out of the equation. There are separate icons in the menu for the built-in answer device and subscription voice mail service. Like previous Panasonic models, the handset will automatically dial your voice mail service access number if you select the option. If you do plan to use the built-in answer service, it offers 18 minutes of record time and the choice mail feature, so that's a major plus. However, I can't comment on the built-in voice mail quality because I don't use the feature. The phone also features a privacy mode which allows you to choose periods when all, or select, phones will alert you with visual lights instead of an audible ring, and call block mode which allows you to block unwanted numbers from ringing. Battery life is better than average. Even with all the extra bells and whistles like talking caller ID and the larger LCD, I still get basically the same battery life, (approx 2 days between charges with several hrs accumulated talk time), as my previous phone which had a smaller dimmer LCD and non-illuminated keypad. I believe I can get even more battery life, because I have yet to hear the robotic battery alarm. However, I tend to recharge when the meter reaches one bar, just to be on the safe side. This model still uses the AAA size Ni-MH batteries.
I am really happy with this phone, especially at the current price. It's an unbeatable bargain. It has features galore, good sound quality, solid build, and a gorgeous design.

Panasonic KX-TG7533B DECT 6.0 PLUS Expandable Digital Cordless Phone and Answering System with 3 Handsets Review

Panasonic KX-TG7533B DECT 6.0 PLUS Expandable Digital Cordless Phone and Answering System with 3 Handsets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Panasonic KX-TG7533B DECT 6.0 PLUS Expandable Digital Cordless Answering System with 3 Handsets largely because of my past experience with Pansonic Quality and the features listed. I was especially interested in the large keys, large high contrast LCD display and in general the well thought out layout of the units.
Usually before I make a purchase, I generally research it fairly well. As this product was relatively new when I purchased it several weeks ago, there were only two other reviews at Amazon and really not a lot of other user information else where. With all other cordless phones I've used in the past, I have always experienced difficulty with the small, low contrast LCD display (without reading glasses) and quite often with the low call volume and limited range. Since I have also experienced frequent disconnection of my Wi-Fi laptop internet connection when using other cordless phones anywhere in my home, I was very excited to hear about the DECT 6.0 advantages.
The Amazon vendor we brought from (Sixth Avenue Electronics)was excellent to deal with, providing the lowest price we found. Shipment of the units was very rapid (even earlier than indicated for UPS ground) and the unit arrived in excellent condition. Following the instructions I let all the handset charge for 7 hours to obtain a full charge and then did the set up which was very simple and went without a hitch. I was absolutely delighted with every aspect of the phones. It was by far and a way the easiest to read and listen to of any cordless phone I have ever used. We received many compliments about the clarity of the calls we made and the calls we received so far are also excellent. I am happy to say that have not experienced the phones causing interfence problems with my lap top or anything else.
The range of these phones is excellent, I am able to make and receive high quality calls from any place in my house or yard, and to date I have been able to use the phones reliably outside my house from more than 300 ft from the base (without the use of the optional extender). While I haven't used the phone for more than several weeks, at this point both the battery life and standby time have exceeded the rated specs.
I had read some criticism on similar earlier models that you had to go through several menu layers for some features. While this is true for some features, it is not at all difficult or confusing. In fact, Panasonic has optional simple numeric codes you can key in to get to the features even faster if you wish. Another minor criticism we read about the phones was the limited ring tones available (about 5 tones and 5 melodies, I believe). While the ones provided were basic and not as extensive as you might find on a typical cell phone, we found several that we could live with and were quite adequate for our needs.
In addition to the features mentioned so far there are really many things both my wife and I really like about this phone. One of these things is information sharing. So for example, you enter into memory in one handset caller information for someone, and it is immediately available for your other handsets. We really enjoy the intercom and call conferencing features. They are very easy to use and work well. The caller block feature is also very easy to use. Since I presently have voice mail service with my telephone service provider, I was also very pleasantly surprised to find how easy and convenient the phone is to bypass the built in answering machine when I want to. With a single button I can simply retrieve voice messages. We also enjoy the use of the silent mode feature of the phones, where we can program the times during which a given handset ringer will ring. All in all, this is by far and away the highest quality and most useful cordless phone I have used to date.

My daughter was happy with this unit -- for the first three times she used it. After the third use, the words no longer display on the screen for some reason. I tried contacting the company using several different email addresses listed on their web site, but they all get returned as being blocked by their Spam server. I even emailed the webmaster to let him/her know, and that email got returned, too!

Canon PIXMA MG8120 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer (4504B002) Review

Canon PIXMA MG8120 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer (4504B002)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I waited to try all four features of this printer before reviewing it - document printing, scanning, photo printing, and photocopying. Generally, this printer is a beauty, both looks-wise and operationally. There is a pop up screen with a very bright menu that also displays photos. You are supposed to be able to edit them right there, but I didn't actually try that feature of this printer. The sleek, shiny, black rounded body has very cool back-lit buttons for all the functions right on the top. You can also control them from the computer. I found myself going back and forth between both, for both everyday functionality and the set up.
I have to say a REALLY great feature about this printer, which I didn't expect to love as much as I do, is the wireless printing capability. You don't have to keep this printer anywhere near your computer, just an outlet. If you have a laptop and like to use it in front of the TV, you will absolutely love the freedom it provides.
I would rate all of the individual features rate highly except the document printing. Here's my review of the features from best to relatively worst:
1. Photo printing - prints either directly from your card (no computer needed technically). You can print up to 600 dpi with this. The photos are crisp and clear, and color is accurate. The only thing I didn't like was the extremely rudimentary photo editing software. It is easy to use, yes, but it doesn't do much. If you want to retouch your photos, use either Photoshop or one of the free pieces of software. I like Picasa even. That may be simple, but it's better than this. Smaller printer paper loads from the back of the machine. Regular paper goes in a drawer in the front, which I really liked.
2. Photocopying - I find it's a relief to have a photocopier for the occasional document that needs photocopying. Here you'll have a color copier too. The colors also rendered accurately here.
3. Scanning - I tried a document and photos (you can scan your signature and then cut and paste it into letters, btw, which is a nice touch if you're sending out cover letters online). It did a great job on all kinds of documents, as well as my signature. Remember though that you can only print at 600 dpi with this machine, which may be a deal killer for a handful of people. The photo scanning wasn't quite up to the quality of the photo printing however. I scanned in a photo of my mom, and boosted the contrast slightly. The picture came out warmer and less detailed than the original photo. You can correct this on Photoshop, but in my opinion you shouldn't have to. Again, I was a little stymied by the fact that the photo editing software was so rudimentary - but if you have different software you should be able to work this out.
4. Document printing - this printer comes with two black cartridges - one is much larger than the other one and is just for printing. I have a small laser printer and am spoiled by it, so that is the caveat. First, the documents print out very slowly. It takes a while to prepare itself to print, and then when it does start to print, it's pretty slow. That was actually the only thing that disappointed me about this printer. The document quality is very good, but in my opinion doesn't reach the near-laser quality that some of the HP printers do. Considering this is an all-in-one, you can't kill it for that issue. However, because of that and the slowness I wouldn't recommend this printer to anyone who regularly does things like college term papers, or other things where you print out large documents on a regular basis -- the lack of speed would drive you crazy. I also liked my resume better on the laser printer, naturally. But the slowness and lack of laser-like crispness are what killed one of the stars on this rating. There was a cool thing about printing though - the front door automatically pops open when the printer starts. I liked that.
I would say that this is an excellent printer for people who want really good photo printing, need scanning and photocopying capability, which are also good, but don't have large print jobs on a regular basis. The user interface and the beauty of the thing itself make it a complete pleasure to operate. Never thought I'd be saying that about a piece of electronic equipment. The ink cartridges are kind of small, so that's another consideration unless you can find a good, cheap dealer on E-bay.
Installation - this is one where you have to be ready. Plug and play this is not. You have to load the printer head, the printer cartridges, and keep going back and forth between the computer and printer screen (which gives you directions) to set it up, no matter what the directions say. Give yourself an hour, because it may not go that smoothly. I actually had no problems - already had a wireless router and didn't have to go through what some others have, but it was tedious and I did notice that you have to pay as much attention to what the computer is saying as what the printer is telling you to do, and found installing the printer head less straight forward that it should have been.

Sony ICF-C414 Clock Radio with Large 1.4 LED Display Review

Sony ICF-C414 Clock Radio with Large 1.4 LED Display
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this to replace my old alarm clock. It has a sleek design that takes up very little space. It has two alarms and can be set to radio, beeps or songs and has an adjustable snooze setting. The built in radio works well and there's a sleep setting so that if you like to fall asleep to the radio you can have it automatically shut off after a certain amount of time.
It has an adjustable brightness level, but I found its default/highest level to be suitable. At that level it's bright enough to see in the dark, but not bright enough to keep me up. The alarm is easy to wake up to and gradually gets louder on the beep setting. It automatically set itself to the correct time and date as soon as I plugged it in, all I had to do is set the time zone. It has a DST feature that can be turned off or on.
The only feature lacking is the ability to customize the alarm for either weekdays, weekends or both. It's not a big deal, especially with two alarms but it would have been nice. Overall I'm very pleased with this alarm clock.

Sound Oasis Travel Therapy White Noise Machine Alarm With FREE Pillow Speakers Review

Sound Oasis Travel Therapy White Noise Machine Alarm With FREE Pillow Speakers
Average Reviews:

How a company could put so much money and effort into designing a product and then totally blow the main component is beyond me. The sound clips are only a few seconds long making repetitions way too easy to hear. Many of the sounds even have background noises that are clearly not natural. Even the white noise and blowing fan sounds, two that should have been sure fire winners, are in no way one continuous sound. It's almost like they spent one half-hearted monday morning with a sound program they downloaded off the internet and then never listened to them again. I would not recommend this product to anyone without some serious improvement.

We wanted a tv perched high enough up to use in front of our tredmill at home and searched all over for something that would fit. By chance, I clicked on Amazon, found VUZE and took a chance on it. Really worth even more than it cost; was easy to set up, we use it regularly and the flat screen allows it to be placed very close to the front of the tredmill without distortion in viewing. Sound is good too, and, since we have it hooked up to our cable tv service, it is able to span the whole complex of stations we can normally receive on all the sets at home. A good investment!

Philips SE7451B/37 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone with Single Handset and Digital Answering Machine Review

Philips SE7451B/37 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone with Single Handset and Digital Answering Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am using an SE7451B as well as an SE7450B (bought later). The SE7450B is an additional handset with a charging base but no base station - it uses the same base station as the SE7451B for communication and therefore is just another phone on the same phone line. Registering the second handset with the base is easy and quick but you do have to read the manual because you have to follow the steps in the right sequence and you have to hold down buttons that would behave differently if you just pressed them. You can also buy the two handsets and one base together as a package in SE7452B, if you need two handsets right away.
For my home phone, I have a traditional line from AT&T, and for my home office I use Vonage because of the addtional features I can get for a low price (my favorite is the Simulring feature). I am using these Philips phones with the Vonage line.
Positives:
1. No interference. Dect 6.0 is great. I got rid of a set of Panasonic 2.4GHz and got this phone - and all interference with the WiFi and the wireless video baby monitor are gone.
2. HiDef really works. The sound quality is just simply amazing for a telephone - unlike any other phone I have ever used, you get a very broad dyanamic range of the human voice.
3. Works well with Vonage. I make a lot of international calls and with some other phones there would be a 2 second delay between when I spoke and when the person at the other end hears it. When I started using this phone, that delay seems to be gone - now it is as good as a domestic phone call (All this on Vonage).
4. The speaker phone is the best yet. It is comparable in quality to a polycom star-shaped speaker phones one uses in offices (except that you can't talk across a large room - you still need to be near the phone which is ok for a home office.
5. Mute works. I considered the Siemens S450/S455 and E450/E455 but the lack of a mute button turned me away. Yes, the hold works on the Siemens, and you can turn off the hold music, but the idea of a mute is so that you can still listen in on a call which the hold function does not do.
6. Ability to copy phone book entries from a SIM card is very handy - you don't have to key in hundreds of phone numbers. I usally keep all my contact information in outlook which syncs with my windows mobile smartphone. Then I use the copy to SIM feature of the phone to copy the numbers to the SIM. Then pop the SIM card into the base station. Make sure to read the instruction manual.
7. The two handsets and the base station are always in sync. For example, I just need to set the clock one one handset. Also, if I enter a phone number in the phonebook of one handset, it immediately shows in the other.
8. The intercom and the baby monitor features are very nice to have and they work well. With the intercom, you can actually forward a call from one handset to another.
9. I like having a battery life indicator. The signal strength is also a nice to have for those days when I venture out too far in the back yard.
10. I am going to repeat this because it is that good: the speaker phone is just outstanding!
Deltas:
1. This is a nitpicky thing, but since main color display turns off to save battery life, you can't tell if you are on mute or not (during a conference call for example) without pushing a button to turn on the display. It would have been nice to have the "missed call" led indicator do double duty as a mute indicator during a call, may be in a different color.
I will post an update if I find anything new.

Brother MFC-790CW Color Inkjet All-in-One with Wide 4.2-Inch Touchscreen LCD Display and Wireless Interface Review

Brother MFC-790CW Color Inkjet All-in-One with Wide 4.2-Inch Touchscreen LCD Display and Wireless Interface
Average Reviews:

After looking through reviews and googling 'best all in one', I rarely saw Brother mentioned. It was either Canon, HP or Epson. So I first purchased the Epson Aristan 800. The first unit was defective with an error loop, so I replaced it with another. It's a nice printer overall with the added bonus of touchscreen, but the fax functions were poor, the paper tray was flimsy and it was a bit too large for where I wanted to put it.
So I returned it, walked around the printer isles for an hour and came upon the Brother MFC-790cw. It had wifi, touchscreen, a phone, a real dial pad, a smaller footprint and a much cheaper price.
So after using it for a week, i'm really happy with the purchase. The wifi software was very easy to setup, and I had no problem installing it in Windows beta 7 unlike the Epson Artisan 800. Receiving and sending faxes is easy as pie. Normal and glossy photo print qualities are very good. And the unit overall looks solidly built.
The only two drawbacks I found was the above normal noise and the below normal print speed. But i'm not running a business with the need to print volumes of documents in a short time, so it's not really much of a concern.
This is an excellent AIO for personal use at a great price.

eMachines E211H bmd 21.5-Inch Widescreen LCD Display - Black Review

eMachines E211H bmd 21.5-Inch Widescreen LCD Display - Black

Like the others, I picked up mine for $89 in black friday sales. Let me tell you, this monitor is definitely a steal! I am having a bit skepticism at first as there are barely any previous reviews for this monitor. However upon powering the monitor for the first time, my skepticism were gone.
The design is relatively nice and simple; not as fancy as the others (plain black bezels, simple monitor stand, not rotatable, and there's no HDMI input). It does give you a DVI input, however emachines didn't give me a DVI cable; just too bad but i can't complain (hey, its an $89 monitor :) )
Performance wise, this thing just blows! The performance are exceptional; no dead pixels and colors are just vibrant. Oh boy, let me tell you, once you go wide screen you will never go back :) Definitely worth it!
One thing that this monitor lack is probably in its OSD buttons, a bit difficult to set your monitor as the buttons are obscured under the "e" logo. Might need some time to get used to it I guess.

Brother MFC-990CW Color Inkjet All-in-One with 5.8GHz Cordless Handset and Wireless Connectivity Review

Brother MFC-990CW Color Inkjet All-in-One with 5.8GHz Cordless Handset and Wireless Connectivity
Average Reviews:

Despite all the models on the market, and the rather cheap prices for All in ones, it seems to be impossible to find one unit that does everything well. It's sort of like finding a mate, you just might have to settle on some things.
I previously had the HP 7310 all in one, which I previously reviewed on here, but a lightning storm fried the fax board in it. The rest of the unit still worked, but I didn't want to get a separate fax machine. I called HP's customers service, and all they wanted to do was sell me a new expensive unit, at what they told me was a discount price. It was actually much cheaper elsewhere online.
This would be a five star unit if not for some major flaws. I chose this unit mainly because it has an answering machine and cordless phone built in. I also liked the glossy black look of the unit.
The unit has a very nice 4.3 lcd touchscreen which works quite well. Its responsive, has good color and easy to use. It tilts up and down, but this is largely unnecessary. The menus however, are a bit tricky to use, and it takes some playing with it to find out where all your settings and adjustments are located. Also when using the screen to scroll answering machine messages, I found it somewhat difficult to scroll back to listen to a previous message. It keeps taking you back to the beginning of the message you are listening too. It's actually easier to scroll forward and go back around, if you don't have many message saved.
The buttons on the front are raised and are the perfect size. They have good tactile feel and they allow you to easily change your functions, fax, copy, scan or photo capture.
There are some slots on the front of the unit for things like a USB flash drive which you can print your pictures directly from. It shows them on the lCD screen, and you scroll through them. It also is Bluetooth and WIFI capable, though mine is hooked with a wire, so I haven't tried these.
As far as the design of the unit, its mostly good. Its smaller and more compact then many units. It only features a 15pg Adf, versus the 30-50pg ones you see on some machines, but I rarely need to fax or copy more then 5pgs at a time anyway. What matters more is that this unit actually scans all the pages one at time, where my HP, frequently would grab too many pages and you ended up having to send them through one at time.
Faxing or printing in black in white was relatively quick, though trying to fax in color took about a minute per page. You do not want this unit for printing pictures. The people came out looking so red, it looked like they had been severely burned. Granted it was on regular paper, but I've printed decent pictured on regular paper before. You also will probably don't want this unit if you are going to do a lot of scanning photos. It has a 36bit scanner versus the 48bit seen on some other units.
The software in general I felt was good, but the OCR software sucked. It scanned all the words right, unlike my previous hp's software, but it completely ignored all spacing and format. Not ideal, if you want to scan and edit a form.
The power cord is not detachable from the unit, not a big deal to me, but it was datachable on my old HP. What I really didn't like was that the USB cord instead of attaching at the back, is threaded up inside the machine. Because of the bulb near the end of the wire, it requires bending and folding the wire some to get it attached and down in the triangle space provided. This is not good for the wire.
The paper tray which pulls all the way out, is rather flimsy, is made of cheap plastic and only holds about 100pgs. However, it's not as flimsy as some units such as Epson's Artisan 800, and a number of other units. More importantly though, I've had no paper jams and the pages don't drop on the floor after printing.
This unit like a number of Brother units, also supposedly uses it own ink to periodically clean itself. You cant shut this off, so even if not using the printer, you will find your ink is being lowered. You only have to replace one cartridge at a time though.
The real flaw with the unit is actually its biggest marketing feature, the fact that it has a built in 30 min answering machine and an attached cordless phone. I use my phone and fax on the same line and was tired of having my answering machine conflict with the fax. By having them in the same unit I hoped to avoid this conflict and guess what? It did. The machine knew when to pick up for messages or fax. No more conflict. Coodles to Brother for being the only manufacturer to offer a built in answering machine and cordless phone in some of their all in one units. Unfortunately, Brother apparently chose to use cheap mics or speakers for its built in phone system. So much to my disappointment, the answering machine messages come out garbled. Not all the time, but about half the time. Why bother to include an answering machine if you are going to do such an unacceptable job? I use my answering machine a lot and I don't want to have to guess what the message is saying. I tried just turning on my old answering machine, and turning off Brothers, but its fax then continues to try and pick up during calls. So I have to unplug the phone cord from the Brother, which means you cant use the cordless phone.
The cordless phone looks and feels nice, has raised buttons (though not backlit) and a decent orange backlit lcd screen and caller ID. Unfortunately the cordless phone also has speaker and or mic problems. Sometimes I can hear my echo while talking, and sometimes other people complained of static noise on the other end.
I sent my first one back, and ordered another one from a different place thinking maybe I got a lemon, but its has the same problems. Brother's customer service line was of no help at all. So now I'm torn, the unit looks nice, prints text fast and well, and faxes text quickly. Those are the main things I use it for, so I've thought about keeping it despite its major flaws. However I don't like the idea of keeping a brand new unit that comes with one of its major features being defective. Every unit on the market seems to have some types of flaws or problems, so I'm not sure where to settle.
UPDATE 9/5/2009- I decided to keep the unit, and for the most part I am content with it. I would probably raise the the star rating to 3 or 4, despite the problems I mentioned. I managed to change the settings so that the fax doesn't always try to pick up and only does so now when I actually get a fax. I rarely use the cordless phone due to its speaker problems, and I keep the answering machine off.
The USB port displays the pics from my flash drive on the LCD screen, but takes awhile to load them, and they are difficult to scroll through to find the ones you want.
I still haven't tried the wireless and probably won't since it's hooked to my computer. The paper tray needs to be a little bit bigger, as I find I have to refill it a little too often. Also be warned, this machine really burns through ink with it's automated cleaning process. I've had to replace the black ink a few times already and the color inks are all half empty despite the fact I almost never print anything in color. I do think the text print quality was slightly better on my old HP, but it's not a major difference. The scanner door feels like it isn't properly attached, like it's going to come off, but I beleive this is so you can lay bulky items on the scanner bed and still lay the door somewhat flat.
Overall I like the design of the unit and it has performed well with black & white printing and faxing, which are my primary uses for it.
